The new Macbook certainly looks beautiful. Personally, I think it is heading in the right direction with a lighter weight, better screen and no loss in battery life. But, there are a bunch of other things that ultimately decide if it will be highly adopted or just a flash in the pan. Here is our list of 5 pros, 3 cons and 1 undecided:
Pro...At just 13.1mm at its thickest point, the Macbook is Apple's thinnest so far.
Pro...Yes, it only weighs 2 pounds
Pro...Three cool colors. It still comes in the traditional Macbook silver, but now also comes in space gray and "bling" gold
Pro...9 hours of battery life
Pro...Stereo sound like the Macbook Air, but it sounds louder and is angled to blast directly at you
Con...The facetime camera is only 480p. So, when you FaceTime or Skype you will only see standard-def not high-def.
Con...I've tripped on my Macbook Pro cord more times than I can count. The fact that the magsafe charger just yanks out has saved me some disasters. Well, the magsafe has been replaced by a USB-C port.
Con...Since it only has the USB-C port, you need an adapter if you want to connect to a display and charge at the same time. Same goes for connecting to an external hard drive and charging at the same time.
Undecided...Apple traded in the old track pad for a new Force Touch trackpad. It delivers a uniform click no matter where you press the surface. The force sensors underneath detect how much pressure you are applying. It will be very interesting to see how consumers adapt to this new feel. It will also be interesting to see how apps are developed to utilize this new feature.
The price tag on this new toy is $1,299 for the 1.1GHz model which comes with 8GB of memory, HD Graphics 5300 and 256 GB of flash storage. The $1,599 1.2GHz model has twice the storage.
